Love/Hate: Do You Think I'm Texy? OPI Polish

Normally I'm 100% in love with OPI brand nail polishes, with their big brush and two-coat max coverage formula. . . but a polish in their new Texas line has me stumped.
"Do You Think I'm Texy?", a rich, berry pink shade, looked in the bottle to be a fun spring color. When I put the first coat on, however, I was absolutely shocked as to how sheer the color was! Where was the bam! color that was in the bottle? Then I found it. For whatever reason, this polish is a lot thinner than the rest of OPI polishes that I have worn, and when I say a lot, I mean a lot. To get to a shade that my nail wasn't visible through took me four coats. That also means that the polish will chip a lot faster since there is so many coats laying on top of my nail.
However, one thing that I really love about this polish (besides the color, after the 4 coats!) is the shine. This shade has a ton of shine in it, and looks on your nails like you have a top coat on, even though you don't. The formula is just so glossy!
Overall I cannot decide if I love or hate this polish; the number of coats it takes is a pain, but the glossy shine and hue are a payoff in the end.
Have any of you tried the OPI Texas collection and had the same coverage problem? Let me know in the comments! (:

Favorite: Vera Bradley Hipster

A purse is the perfect accessory to any outfit. A good purse that you can carry anywhere with any outfit is a necessity; one that looks good, feels good, and isn't like lugging a suitcase with you everywhere.
A while back (maybe a little before Christmas, since this is when I received my Vera), I had been looking at Vera Bradley bags online, and decided that one of the many choices would be the one for me. But, I couldn't find one that fit what I needed! Some were way too big, others way too small. Then, on the sidebar, popped up the perfect bag for me.... the Hipster! The bag is small enough to not be a pest to carry, but big enough to hold a lot of stuff. This bag was just calling my name!
The print that I decided on was one called "Barcelona" (see image below) that had multicolor striping on it as well as a black and white background that would go with anything in my wardrobe. Needless to say, I immediately added it to my wishlist!
Vera Bradley bags can run anywhere from $30.00 on up, but are well worth the money. The fabric is sturdy and very durable, and all accessories (clasps, zippers, etc.) are stainless steel. The Hipster that I ended up getting retails for $59.00. Spacious, functional, and attractive, a Vera bag is perfect for getting started into the designer purse realm. Plus, with so many different styles to choose from, there is a purse for everyone from teens on up to middle aged women. A very great bag, and definitely my favorite!

Get the Look: Neutral Nudes

Hey everyone! Today's post is a Get the Look tutorial on neutral everyday makeup. This look is simple, and makes you look like you just rolled out of bed gorgeous! Products mentioned are from my own make-up collection, but in no way do you have to use the same product, just a similar shade (: To get your fresh faced neutral look, keep reading!

  • CoverGirl Ultimate Finish Foundation: Applied to areas in need or entire face. I use this without the sponge, as I find it blends easier into my skin. I cannot rave enough about this product! It is creamy, blendable, and gives your face an airbrushed look.

  •  Revlon Cream Blush in 09 Rosy Glow: Revlon has struck gold with this product, the formula is great, creamy and feels like silk. Rosy Glow is the perfect flush on your cheeks for a natural bit of color. Apply this to the apples of your cheeks and blend back toward your temples with either your fingers or a blush brush.

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance: Widely known to the make-up world, and a great primer for your shadows to last all day long. Apply a small amount (smaller than a pea) to your lid and blend up to your brow bone.

  • Maybelline Eyeshadow Trio in Bronze Glitz: We will only be using one shadow out of this trio, the lightest color on the very bottom. This shade is labeled for the brow bone, and works great as a hi-lighter. Apply this shimmery shade to your brow bone with a flat shader brush, as well as to the inner corner of your eye, dragging the shadow inward so it reaches halfway across your lid. This effect creates an effect that makes you look more awake.

  • MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glitters: This shimmery champagne color is the perfect hue for a natural luxe lid. Apply this to the outer half of your lid with a flat shader brush, blending into the light shade on the inner half of your lid.

  • MAC Eyeshadow in Woodwinked: This light shimmery brown compliments the lighter shades on the lid perfectly. Apply to the crease using a crease brush or a fluffy blending brush. Blend the colors out to soften the edges, while not blending to the point of making the colors look muddy, or like one shade.

  • CoverGirl One by One mascara in Black Brown: This mascara catches every lash and adds volume and length without clumping. Apply two coats to upper lashes and one coat to lower. (Note: A brown eyeliner may be applied if you really want one... I just find the natural look better without the liner)

Add a chapstick of your choosing, and you are ready to go! (:
Stay fabulous, fashionistas!

Gold: LUSH Bath Bombs

I have loved LUSH for about three years now, and my tied-for-favorite (behind soaps!) are their bath bombs. This one in particular, Twilight (no relation to vampires and werewolves) is my favorite scent. The smell of lavender, a Costa Rican plant Tonka Tonka and vanilla intoxicates you the moment you pick this bomb up. It's one of their relaxing bombs, to be used to de-stress or right before bed, hence the name, Twilight. I was so surprised when i dropped the bomb in the tub one night, and as it was dissolving, sparkles came fizzing out of it! The center of the bomb is blue sparkles, giving it the look of going from a sunset to the starry night sky as it dissolves. Plus, prior to using, I had this bomb in my bedroom for a couple of days, and it was like a relaxing air freshener. Every time I walked into my room, it smelled of the Twilight bath bomb! From $4 to $8, LUSH bath bombs are worth the money to relax and unwind after a long day. Check out www.lush.com to cruise around their amazing products. What is your favorite product from LUSH? Off-Topic: TV Obesession... The Nanny

Ever watched a show and just absolutely fell in love with it for whatever reason? Mine is "The Nanny", hands down. Starring Fran Drescher and Charles Shaughnessy, the show follows Fran's character, Fran (she created the show as well) as she becomes the Nanny for Charles' character, Mr.Sheffield. It's witty, romantic, and everything a sitcom should be... I'd compare it to I Love Lucy. For a 1990's sitcom, its definitely one of the best, besides Family Matters, of course.
I loved The Nanny when I was a little bit younger, and now it's been on Nick @ Nite for a while, I've renewed the love! What's your favorite sitcom? (:

Off-Topic: Aerobics

Hello fashionistas! Today I started an aerobics class, and let me tell you it was a workout! Aerobics is designed to get your heart pumping(and apparently legs like jell-o, but in a good way) to increase respiration and muscle activity. After a 10 minute straight jog on the track, I definitely knew my heart was pumping. Each class targets a different muscle group; legs, abs, arms, etc. When you're done, if you did the workouts correctly, you should feel like you've just  won a marathon. After just one kick-youknowwhat class, I can already feel the benefits. My leg and ab muscles feel like they've been stretched for the first time, my lungs feel open and free, and my stomach sore but tight. An aerobics class any way you look at it is a great way to get in shape, and feel better about your own body image. Plus, when I got home, inspired by the workout, I reached for fruit instead of whatever was in arm's reach. If there's a gym or aerobics studio near you(or even if you can take it through your high school or college), I definitely recommend looking into their classes (:

Off-Topic: Favorite Beauty Products of March

I feel like a blogging fool today! Getting GetTheGlossip on it's feet (:
It's only March 14th, but this post is going to be my March Favorites: Beauty Products Edition! These are the products that for the latter portion of February up until now I have been wearing almost every day.....

  • Artistry Tinted Moisturizer; shade 438- great coverage and you only need a little bit!
  • Artistry Light Reflective Lotion w/ SPF 15; shade Golden Radiance- a sun protector built into a shimmery sheer liquid bronzer
  • Almay Smart Shade Concealer w/ SPF 15; shade 010 light- this is by far the best liquid concealer I have found out there. It provides great coverage with dark circles and blemishes, and it blends to your skin color! They also have a formula with blemish correction.

  • Laura Mercier Cheek Color Pot in Soft Apricot- I love this cream blush/powder blush! In the top portion is the cream blush product, and the bottom has a no-shimmer powder form of the blush. The color is subtle enough for a natural flush, yet noticeable as a blush. Blends well and doesn't make me break out either.

  •  Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour Duo(square packaging on left) in Cocoa Rose- This gorgeous duo is a combination of a soft pink and a rich brown. I dust the pink over the inner portion of my lid using a flat shader brush, and use the dark brown as a brow filler. The brown is perfect as a brow filler because it blends easy (like all LM shadows do) and stays even without a setting agent, like brow gel, or clear mascara.
  • Laura Mercier Matte Eyeshadow in Cashmere- This shadow is exactly as the name implies: cashmere. The color is so soft and neutral, and it blends like a dream. I use this on the middle of my eye, or some days even all over the lid because it's just that functional. Easily grown to be my favorite shadow.
  • MAC shadows in Mulch(left) and All That Glitters(right)- MAC eyeshadows are my second favorite brand, and these two colors are my favorites from MAC. They're neutral, blendable, and easy to work with. I use All That Glitters on my outer corner, and Mulch in my crease to create an easy neutral look

  • Maybelline One by One mascara in Blackest Black- I LOVE this mascara! The brush has so many bristles on it, it really gets every last lash, without clumping. Works better than Maybelline's Falsies mascara to create a false lash look in my opinion. Length and volume in one, great mascara!
  • Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Liner in Black- I bought this product for the first time back in October when I was doing makeup for Homecoming, and had to go back and purchase another! The quality is comparable to MAC's Fluidlines, but a little thicker. However, it comes with a brush and is very easy to apply how much or as little as you want.

  • NYX Lipstick in 501 Iris- I'm not one really for lip products, but this color is so pretty I couldn't resist picking it up when I made a run to ULTA. A peachy, shimmery pink, it goes with anything, and adds just a little shine to your lips. Not a bad product for $5!

Get the Look: Wonderful Winged Liner

Winged liner (seen at left on T-Swift) is being seen everywhere lately, from catwalks to sidewalks. Ever wonder how to achieve the perfect wing? The secret is in the type of liner you use! For beginners, a liquid liner with a felt tip applicator works best. My pick would be Maybelline Line Stiletto, with it's felt tip applicator, the liner goes on smooth and quick. For a more advanced winged-liner wearer, a gel liner, such as Maybelline Eye Studio gel liner works well to get a more dramatic wing. Read below for the secret to three minute winged-liner!
  • Using the liner of your choice, start a thin line at the inner corner of your eye, and follow your lash line to the outer corner, gradually getting wider as you go. This line is the base for your winged liner
  • From the outer corner of your eye, draw a line out on a diagonal until its even with your brow (there should be space in between your brow and end of your wing)
  • Start from the tip of that line, and bring the liner down to your lower lash line, creating a small empty triangle.
  • Fill in the triangle and your perfect wing is complete! (when the wing is complete and you shut your eye, the wing should look like a diagonal line coming right off of your eyeliner on your lash line)
  • Done!

How do I....... Make my own nail polish?

We've all done it.... looked at an eyeshadow and thought, "Gosh, that would look amazing as a polish!" This simple how-to will teach you how to get your favorite eyeshadow onto your nails!

You will need:
  • Powder eye shadow or eye shadow pigment of your choice
  • Clear nail polish
  • Small container to mix the polish together in
  • Toothpick, popsicle stick, or other small utensil to mix with

  How to:
  • First off, if you are using an eye shadow that is in pan form (not loose, like a pigment is), you will need to remove some of the shadow from the pan, and crush it to a powder.
  • Once you have your eye shadow prepped, place a small amount (about the size of a dime, if not less) into the container you will be using.
  • Pour an equal amount of the clear nail polish over the shadow in the container.
  • Mix the two parts together, forming a smooth, lump-less consistency. Note: More clear polish may need to be added to the mixture for a more polish like consistency. The goal here is to have more polish than shadow in the container so the shadow is like a polish.
  • Using the brush from the clear polish, apply the nail polish to your nails, and top with a different clear polish.
  • TO CLEAN YOUR POLISH BRUSH: after using the brush to apply polish, run the bristles under warm water to wash off any polish, then soak in nail polish remover to remove any excess colored polish.

Gold: Heat Protectors

From blow dryers to curling irons to flat irons, we can put a lot of damage on our hair. That's where a heat protector plays a major role in haircare! If you've been wondering if a heat protector was worth the money, or just a hoax, it is definitely worth the money. Especially if you use a heat tool every day, your hair would become extremely dry and damaged, breaking easier if you did not use a heat protector. A good heat spray doesn't have to break the bank, either! A good drugstore heat spray is the TRESemme Professionals Heat Tamer Spray, which can be found in drugstores for around $3-$6 depending on your area. A "higher end" heat protector spray is the CHI 44 Iron Guard, which can be purchased in ULTA stores for a $5 travel-bottle or around $15(prices vary). Having tried both, and loved both, I can say TRESemme has created a good dupe for the CHI heat protectant, for a lot less $$$. A heat protector spray is definitely a gold product.

Love/Hate: Biore Pore Strips

The newest issue of Seventeen arrived in my mailbox today, much to my joy. As I flipped through the pages, an interesting ad caught my eye.... one for Biore Pore Strips! I had always wanted to try these, but never got around to actually going out and getting them. So, when I saw that there was a one-strip sample attached to the ad, I immediately tore it out and tried it. The strip applied cleanly and just felt like a bandage on my nose, nothing out of the ordinary. According to the ad in the mag, the strip was supposed to clean my skin on my nose of all blackheads, dirt, etc. Now, either I have really, really clean skin, or the something went wrong with the strip. When I peeled it off my nose and looked (gross! but that's what you're supposed to do with them! [: ), there wasn't any "guck" on the strip! I have to say I was a little disappointed, as weird as that sounds. However, the strip did make my nose incredibly smooth, and my pores looked minimized..... so until I test this product a little more, we have a love/hate relationship on our hands.
Have any of you tried the Biore Pore Strips and had the same problem? Did they work for you? Leave me a comment below!
